Abstract


The manufacturing sector is considered to be an economic driver of the country. It is often plagued by inefficiency as the degree of competition increased over the past decades. In order to be globally competitive, organisations improve their manufacturing capability by the use of industrial engineering tools and techniques to reduce costs and improve productivity. This study invesigated the application of Kanban systems of two manufacturing organisations using case study methodology. The objective was to identify strengths and weaknesses of the Kanban system in an attempt to improve quality and productivity. The study concluded that both management and employees need to embrace the system for it to be successful.
