Abstract

Zero harm and sustainability: Is it an impossible dream or a realistic goal? For Sasol, the journey towards zero harm and sustainability in Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) has become a realistic goal through self-examination, diagnosing the problem areas and finding ways to implement and improve their risk-based SHE practices.   This article describes the Sasol-developed SHE maturity assessment tool and tells the story of how the tool has been developed. The One Sasol SHE Maturity Assessment will assist leadership teams and SHE teams to drive continuous improvement towards zero harm and sustainability through assessing the level of maturity of the team’s SHE performance and resilient SHE practices and through the identification of the correct SHE improvement focus areas.  Corporate organisations have an obligation of ensuring that employees and contractors are working responsible, safe and staying healthy while protecting the environment they work in. If resilient SHE practices are implemented and embedded in the business, all employees can go home safe and healthy every day while the business protect the environment and sustain excellent SHE results being zero harm and sustainability.
