Abstract

A growing database of literature exists that is geared towards the analysis and evaluation of Industry 4.0. However, one of the point of interests is the assessment of Industry 4.0 within the context of sustainability and sustainable development. Furthermore, there seems to be a gap in literature specifically on the transitions and transformations to sustainable states which are evidently fostered through sociotechnical transitions/transformations also known as sustainability transitions/transformations. This presents the need to evaluate the interfacial layers between these disciplines given the grand challenge of sustainability and the prospects shown by Industry 4.0 to support complex problem solving. This paper presents a bibliometric analysis of literature jointly considering concepts of sustainability, sustainable development sociotechnical systems and their transitions with Industry 4.0.
