The Department of Forest and Wood Science at the Stellenbosch University, in collaboration with the CARE4C project (as part of a Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant from the European Union) and the International Union of Forest Research Organisations (IUFRO), is proud to host an international symposium on Managing for resilient forests in a variable future climate

Collaborating IUFRO Units are: 1.02.01, 1.09.00 and 5.01.04.

The Symposium Themes

1.   Management opportunities to increase productivity and resilience of mixed-species or uneven aged natural forests under threat of climate change.

2.    Strategic silvicultural choices and adapted management regimes for plantation forests grown under an increasingly erratic climate

3.     Advances in understanding wood formation dynamics and the environmental control of wood property variation

Call for abstracts


The conference organising committee is inviting abstract submissions for oral presentations and posters. Abstracts must contribute to one of the three themes on the conference.

Submission criteria:

  • Abstracts should be a maximum of 300 English words (excluding title and author information).
  • Only abstracts submitted online, via the abstract submission system will be considered.
  • Only original research will be considered (i.e. no review or case studies).

Please note:

The organising committee will review your abstract and reserve the right to accept, suggest changes, allocate your presentation to a specific theme or decline your abstract. You will receive notifications throughout the entire process. A electronic booklet of the abstracts will be distributed at the conference. The conference proceedings will not be published after the conference.

Deadline for submission of abstracts:        28 February 2020

Approval of abstracts:                              13 March 2020

From the home page > ACCOUNT > complete form and mark the last two options; "Reader" and "Author" > CREATE. After the account with user name and password have been created, from the home page > USER HOME > Author; new submission > follow steps 1 to 4 > SUBMIT.
