Abstract

Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS) are the pinnacle of future smart production systems with characteristics that includes process transparency, behaviour analysis, and control of production processes. The IT architecture for production system infrastructure and framework of a CPPS, smart production systems and mobile technology is discussed to establish collaboration opportunities. Thereafter areas of implementing mobile technology within the Stellenbosch Technology Centre’s Laboratory for Advanced Manufacturing (STC-LAM) are investigated. Benefits of mobile technology within the manufacturing industry and financial sector is investigated. Challenges and future work are also discussed.
